I Love Lucy

Here is some information on of my favorite TV show of all time, I Love Lucy. It is truly a classic, with perfectly clean humor (now THAT'S few and far between today!) and original and hilarious jokes.

It all started on October 15th, 1951 when the pilot for "Lucy" aired on television, and from there, the show skyrocketed. Its groundbreaking filming techniques inspired the entire TV-show industry. People all over the world loved it, and when the character Lucy gave birth to Little Ricky in the episode "Lucy Goes to the Hospital" (episode #56, airing on January 19th, 1953), more people tuned in for THAT than President Eisenhower's Inaugural Address, wich aired that same night.

I Love Lucy was created to keep Lucy and Desi's marriage from falling to pieces. An alcoholic and a disloyal husband, Desi continuously put Lucy's love to the test. On April 1st, 1960, the last Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour (which was basically the 3 last seasons of I Love Lucy) was aired. Literally within hours of when the filming ended, Lucille called for a divorce.

On November 19th, 1961, Lucille married Gary Morton, a comedian. They remained happily wed until her untimely death at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California after she underwent open-heart surgery. The doctors said she was recovering extremely well, but just a week later, she felt pains in her torso and it turned out that she was suffering from an aortic rupture. She died on April 26th, 1989. She was only 77 years old.

LA at Last, episode #114 and airing on February 7th, 1955, is my favorite episode. Lucy, Ricky, Ethel, and Fred finally reach California after a long road trip. Ricky heads right to the studio, and so the rest of the gang have to entertain themselves. They decide to go to the Brown Derby restaurant and there they see William Holden. Lucy is unable to take her eyes off of him, and finally she feels that she has to leave. Hurriedly, she's leaving the restaurant but accidentally trips a waiter who is carrying a pie (but in actuallity it was made of applesauce) and the "pie" goes right into Mr. Holden's face!
Later that afternoon, Ricky meets William Holden at his studio and since he thinks that Lucy would absolutely love to see him, he brings Mr. Holden back to the hotel with him to meet her. But when she finds out who it is, she doesn't know what to do! She resorts to a disguise of a putty-nose and big glasses. Her hair is tied up, also, so that her hair is hidden. Even then, though, Mr. Holden says that she seems strangely familiar, though he can't place where he'd seen her. Although Ricky is quite startled, Lucy gets away with it-- until she lights a cigarette and puts her "nose" on fire! She puts it out by dipping it in her coffee and says to Mr. Holden with dismay that he had seen her at the Brown Derby and slowly takes off her "disguise." And then he remembers that it was, in fact, the Brown Derby in which he had seen her.Lucy is ready to be in real trouble with Ricky, but William Holden fibs that he had seen her and asked the waiter who the beautiful redhead was. Then, he gave her a wink behind Ricky's back. Relieved, Lucy rushes up to him and kisses him right on the lips, and then sighs excitedly, "I KISSED BILL HOLDEN!" and promptly faints. :)

From the episode Lucy and Bob Hope, the first episode of the 6th season (episode #154), which aired on October 1st, 1956. In real life, Lucille and Bob were best friends.
Probably one of the most famous Lucy episodes, California Here We Come! aired on January 10th, 1955 and was the 110th episode to be aired.

From the episode called Nursery School, where Little Ricky goes to nursery school and quickly gets sick and needs his tonsils out. Lucy has to sneak into the hospital at night to give Little Ricky his teddy bear (and actually, my dad had the same one when he was little). The 137th episode, it aired on December 5th, 1955.
